Douglasdale police crack down during several operations
Police arrested more than 470 suspects for various crimes during various operations held across the Johannesburg district, including Operation Shanela, visible policing, and roadblocks.
Douglasdale police have arrested more than 470 suspects for various crimes during operations that were held throughout the district.
On May 8, police were patrolling in Mostyn Park, when they spotted a suspicious looking minibus Quantum.
Johannesburg District Corporate Communication’s Lieutenant Colonel Mpho Tshetlhane said the vehicle was stopped, and, upon searching inside, the police recovered a transformer and various tools.

She said the nine occupants, aged between 23 and 38, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and tampering with essential infrastructure.
In a separate incident, police received information about men in possession of stolen copper cables at Jeppe hostel. After investigating, a 27-year-old man was arrested for possession of the stolen copper cable and tampering with essential infrastructure.
“Information gathered was operationalised, and three suspects were found inside the room with the copper cables,” said Tshetlhane. “Upon noticing the police, two suspects fled the scene, and one suspect was arrested.”

Other operations included: Operation Shanela, where police apprehended about 52 suspects around the Diepsloot policing precinct for various crimes ranging from selling liquor without a license and driving under the influence of liquor, to undocumented persons, visible policing (VisPol) and station commander’s operations, where they apprehended another 123 suspects for various crimes, high density operations, and adhock roadblocks, where about 14 undocumented persons were arrested along the Grasmere toll plaza and the N14 freeway in Diepsloot, and 28 others were arrested for driving under the influence.
These operations were held from May 16 to 18.

Detectives also traced and arrested 231 suspects for various crimes, including contact crime, contact-related crimes, property crime, and other serious crimes. These suspects will appear at various magistrates’ courts soon.
“We will intensify these operations to ensure that our communities are, and feel, safe,” Kubheka added.
