City Power restores street lights after 8 months

After eight months of darkness, residents can finally enjoy well-lit streets again in Fourways Ward 115 as City Power reconnects about 120 street lights.

After eight months of darkness, Fourways residents can finally enjoy well-lit streets again. About one hundred and twenty street lights were successfully repaired by City Power across Ward 115, bringing much-needed safety and peace of mind to the community.

Ward councillor Mark Van der Merwe expressed his enthusiasm about the repairs. “I’m over the moon. The issues have been outstanding for some time, but the new teams handling this Eskom/City Power area are amazing. They tend to get to the issues promptly and send us proof of repair once done.”

Van der Merwe emphasised the positive impact of these repairs on the community. “It is an absolute relief. Now we know that, when we escalate residents’ issues, they are being attended to quickly. It makes a real difference in people’s lives.”

Regarding the extent of recent repairs, he provided an update: “Major repairs were carried out in Kingfisher and Robin streets in Fourways, as well as Willow and Campbell streets in Craigavon. There are still outstanding faults, such as a stretch from Alexander down to Albatross streets in Fourways. City Power needs permission from Eskom to connect these street lights to the controllers outside the Albatross substation.”

When asked about challenges faced during the repair process, Van der Merwe said: “The delays are due to faults in the power supply. Not all issues have been dealt with yet, mainly because of the need for authorisation from Eskom to proceed with certain connections.”

On future commitments, Van der Merwe assured residents: “City Power has indicated they will carry out the outstanding repairs as soon as Eskom provides the necessary authority to connect to the substation.”
