Drive 2 Unite 2025 fights period poverty with cars

Tiamara Andrew leads the charge with Drive 2 Unite 2025, a unique motoring event dedicated to eradicating period poverty and empowering young girls.

As South Africa celebrates Youth Month, Fourways good Samaritan Tiamara Andrew (17) champions motoring and menstrual equity in South Africa.

Andrew is the founder and ambassador for Blessing Lives NPO, which is committed to eradicating period poverty, and is excited to announce Drive 2 Unite 2025.

This impactful charity event will take place on June 22 at the Montecasino Events Area, bringing together communities, businesses, and individuals to support young learners across South Africa.

The event will see around 250 vehicles, including supercars, motorcycles, hot rods, and modified 4x4s, convoying through Johannesburg’s streets in a controlled route, culminating at Montecasino for a public display of these incredible machines.

Andrew explained that the convoy’s journey will begin early in the morning, from a secret start point, with safety being a top priority. “This year’s Drive 2 Unite is not just about cars and bikes; it’s about making a lasting impact. The launch of sanitary pad drop-off boxes in high-traffic areas across Gauteng signifies a shift towards sustainability and continuous support. All donations will be distributed to schools in the most disadvantaged quintiles, ensuring that the fight against period poverty extends beyond a single event.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring at least one pack of sanitary pads to contribute to the ongoing sanitary pad drive, which aims to create a sustainable supply chain for underprivileged schoolgirls.

Charlene Louw, CEO of the Beer Association of South Africa, emphasised the importance of such initiatives. “Period poverty represents one of the most overlooked barriers to equality in our society today. When we learned about the Drive 2 Unite initiative, we were struck by both the scale of the challenge and the powerful, grassroots approach being taken to address it.

“As a company that values human connection and shared experiences, we recognised that supporting this cause was essential. We cannot celebrate community and togetherness while knowing that something as natural as menstruation continues to isolate and exclude so many women and girls from full participation in life.”

For those unable to attend the event, donations can still be made online through the Blessing Lives website at: www.blessinglivessa.org. “There you’ll find our banking details or our Zapper link to donate, ensuring everyone has a chance to contribute to this vital cause,” Andrew concluded.
