Broadacres Academy U17 head coach praises the sevens team
The rugby team has won their third consecutive championship, a success head coach Garrith Lynch credits to consistent hard work, disciplined training, and strong team values.
Broadacres Academy U17 sevens rugby team secured their third consecutive championship title in the schools Sevens Rugby League, a milestone head coach Garrith Lynch attributes to consistent hard work and a commitment to excellence.
“Our coaching staff has built a solid foundation over the past three years, focusing not just on physical skills, but on mental toughness, game intelligence, and strong team values,” he said. “The players’ dedication to improving individually and collectively is what truly sets them apart.”
Reflecting on the team’s chemistry, Lynch said that their strong bond had been central to their continued success. He said the boys have grown up playing together, supporting one another through highs and lows. “That brotherhood translates into trust on the field. They cover for each other, communicate instinctively, and push each other to be better. It’s often said that rugby is a team sport, where unity wins games. This team embodies that fully.”

In the final, strategy and execution played a critical role. “Our strategy was built on high-pressure defence and fast transitions. We knew we had the fitness and skill to exploit space, if we could force turnovers early. The boys stuck to the game plan with discipline, keeping composure under pressure and capitalising on scoring opportunities quickly. It was a tactical win, but also a testament to their focus and maturity on the day.”
Commenting on the academy’s U18 team, who finished fourth in a strong field, Lynch expressed pride in their performance and optimism for the future. He said the boys showed great heart and potential, and their development over the season was impressive. “Next year, the goal is to build on this foundation. To close the gap between strong performances and consistent wins. With the talent and determination in that squad, we’re confident they’ll be contenders again.”

Lynch also spoke about the broader ethos of Broadacres Academy’s rugby programme. He said the school saw rugby as a vehicle for character development, as much as athletic achievement. “From an early age, players are taught the values of respect, discipline, humility, and teamwork. Coaches model these principles, and players are held to high standards, both on and off the field. We celebrate, not just victories, but moments of sportsmanship, leadership, and personal growth.”
