Douglasdale CPF calls for school shoe donations
Residents are called to donate shoes by July 16 to help children in need walk to school with dignity.
The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) is inviting residents in the Douglasdale Police Station precinct to join hands this Mandela Day by donating new or gently worn school shoes for children in need.
In partnership with the National Children and Violence Trust (NCVT), the CPF has launched the ‘Walk the Walk with Us’ Mandela Day School Shoes Campaign.
The campaign honours Nelson Mandela’s legacy and the spirit of Ubuntu by ensuring no child is left behind simply because they lack a pair of shoes.

CPF public relations officer Freda Boiles encouraged residents, schools, faith-based organisations, and local businesses to take part.
“This campaign is about walking the walk, not just talking the talk. We want to help our children walk into school with dignity, confidence, and hope.

“This is planned to be a yearly campaign going forward so we can continue to help children in need.”
The need for school shoes remains high in vulnerable communities, and even a single pair can help a child focus on learning instead of worrying about painful walks to school or the shame of attending barefoot.

Donations can be dropped off at the Douglasdale SAPS CSC Centre, with the collection drive running until July 16.
Community members are encouraged to involve their children, schools, or workplaces to make the drive a collective act of kindness in honour of Mandela Day.
“Together as Douglasdale, we can ensure every child’s journey to school is filled with hope, one step at a time,” added Boiles.
