Construction underway to ease Pineslopes traffic at Sunset and Forest roads

Work to upgrade the Sunset Avenue and Forest Drive intersection into a traffic circle is underway, aiming to ease congestion and improve pedestrian safety by September.

Motorists and pedestrians can expect a smoother and safer commute as construction to upgrade the intersection of Sunset Avenue and Forest Drive into a traffic circle is now underway.

The project is being led by Pineslopes Boulevard, in partnership with Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).

The Pineslopes Boulevard centre management team explained that the project aims to reduce congestion at this busy junction, while introducing traffic calming measures to protect pedestrians. As part of the project, contractors are installing a raised pedestrian crossing and speed table on Forest Drive.

The project began on July 1, and is scheduled for completion by September 30, with the centre management assuring the community that updates will be communicated regularly throughout the construction period.

Residents and businesses should also note that Eskom plans a temporary power outage on Monday, July 21, for approximately half the day, to allow for the relocation of a power cable linked to the project. Community members are encouraged to plan accordingly.

  • Sunset Avenue: The road remains open with no full closures required for the traffic circle installation.
  • Centre Access: The entrance to Pineslopes Boulevard from Sunset Avenue stays open, though some access restrictions may apply at times.
