Lonehill gears up to build hope this Mandela Day

The Lonehill Residents Association and Sotheby’s Realty are calling on the Lonehill and surrounding community to turn Mandela Day into a day of action by donating food, toiletries, and cleaning materials to support vulnerable children.

Friday, July 18, marks Mandela Day, a day that has become synonymous with volunteerism, philanthropy and giving across South Africa.

This year, Sotheby’s Realty, in collaboration with the Lonehill Residents Association, is calling on the Lonehill and surrounding community to join hands in a practical act of kindness to help change the world for the better.

Residents are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, toiletries, and cleaning materials, and to join in building food pyramids at The Deck at Lonehill Shopping Centre on the day, from 09:00 to 17:00.

The beneficiary of these donations will be Kids Haven, an organisation dedicated to the care and protection of vulnerable children, especially those without parental care, by providing them with shelter, education, training, therapy, and protection.

Shelley Miller, the spokesperson for the association, said, “Mandela Day is about making a difference in our communities, and we know that the Lonehill community always steps up when it counts. This is an opportunity for us to work together to support vulnerable children while building something visible that shows what we can do when we unite.”

From July 9, residents can drop off donations at Sotheby’s Realty, Regent Hill Office Park (corner Turley and Leslie roads), or in the donation trolley at Pick n Pay Lonehill.

For complexes or businesses that wish to do a combined collection, arrangements can be made for collection by contacting Miller on 011 465 9196 or Trish Hamilton at Sotheby’s Realty on 082 457 4631.
