Councillor’s DIY pothole fix earns community praise
Residents of Ward 94 gave their councillor, David Foley, a wave of emojis and applause after he was spotted filling a stubborn pothole on Sunrise Avenue with sand.
Residents of Ward 94 were quick to flood their councillor, David Foley, with chat emojis in the community group, after he shared a picture of himself, hard at work, filling potholes with sand.
The councillor’s hands-on approach seems to have won him plenty of virtual applause, and maybe a few cheeky compliments, as he tackled the pothole on Sunrise Avenue, by Tequila Sunrise, on September 28.
Foley took to X to log a call for Johannesburg Roads Agency about the pothole on September 21.

The roads agency acknowledged the call, and noted that it has been relayed to their team, but three weeks later, the pothole was still not repaired.
That’s why Foley took sand and his spade to get down to business in a desperate move. “I noticed this deep pothole, and logged the call via X. It is taking a while, so I wanted to prevent residents from damaging their rims and tyres. I temporarily filled it, like a proactive councillor, which is the DA difference President Ramaphosa mentioned in his speech.”

Foley added that, Region A JRA has been over utilised by mayoral projects, which has impacted ward 94 in particular, where he has received calls going back over a year.
The roads agency has been reached out to for comment, and the story will be updated once one is received.
