Diepsloot’s first Super Cup inspires young footballers
Cheers, pride, and passion filled Diepsloot Ext 13 as local coaches and young players made history at the township’s first-ever youth football tournament.
Diepsloot came alive over the weekend of October 4 and 5, as the community hosted its first-ever youth football tournament. The Diepsloot Super Cup was organised by coach Lucky Shabalala, from Big Heroes Academy, and coach Siphiwe Jele, from Dangerous Sweepers FC.
The event, featuring U10 and U13 divisions, delivered more than just football; it brought families, friends, and neighbours together in a celebration of sport and community spirit.

With a professional setup, including commentators, referees, analysts, photographers, and even first aid teams, young players got a taste of what professional football feels like.

“It wasn’t easy,” said Shabalala, “but we pulled it off. The energy and support from the community was unbelievable.”
Four teams competed: Seven Stars FC (Vereeniging), Killer Boys FC (Cosmos City), Big Heroes Academy (Diepsloot), and Dangerous Sweepers FC (Adelaide Tambo).
Killer Boys FC claimed both age division titles, with Amogetswe Ngubane and Bongani Ncube named Men of the Match for their outstanding performances.

Beyond the trophies, the tournament left a lasting mark on the youth. “The kids gained confidence, teamwork, and exposure,” Shabalala added. “Most importantly, they played in front of their parents, which doesn’t happen often here.”

The organisers thanked LR Group for donating prizes and fruit, UBJ Community for supplying water, and volunteers for their vital contributions.
With such overwhelming success, Shabalala confirmed the Diepsloot Super Cup is set to become an annual event, a growing platform to nurture young talent and unite the community through sport.
