Lonehill launches live traffic cameras to boost safety and connectivity
A new live traffic camera system across Lonehill aims to make daily commutes safer and smarter while strengthening community safety and awareness.
As part of its commitment to safety, transparency, and convenience, the Lonehill Residents Association (LRA) has launched the Lonehill Live Street Cameras system.
This system gives residents real-time access to traffic conditions at key intersections across the suburb.
Residents can now monitor traffic flow at busy locations including Main and Witkoppen roads, Lonehill Boulevard and Mulbarton Circle, Lonehill Boulevard and Concourse Crescent, Lonehill Boulevard and Crestwood Drive, and Leslie and Turley roads.

This initiative allows community members to plan their commutes better, avoid congestion, and stay informed about road incidents. Besides live streaming, the system records up to 14 days of traffic footage, which is useful for road safety analysis and reporting incidents.
“The Lonehill Live Street Cameras system has been successfully unveiled to the public. This project started about 11 months ago to help residents dealing with congestion on our streets.

Lonehill is a notorious cut-through for motorists between Winnie Mandela, Witkoppen, and Main roads, causing gridlock on some days. This project gives our residents a snapshot of current road conditions so they can plan their travel and avoid unnecessary delays.” said Keith Rampton general manager of LRA.
Developed with Fidelity, the Lonehill camera system works with the suburb’s existing network of over 70 security cameras covering Lonehill, Beverley, Pineslopes, and Lonehill Upper East.

These systems, improved by AI-powered analytics, have already led to a significant reduction in crime in the area.
To protect privacy, low-resolution cameras were used for the traffic feed, ensuring the footage is strictly for monitoring traffic flow rather than detailed viewing.
Currently in its beta testing phase, the live feed is temporarily available to the public. Once testing is complete, access will be restricted to LRA members or offered through a subscription service.
“Our goal is to provide a practical, privacy-conscious tool that improves safety and convenience for everyone who lives and travels in Lonehill,” added Rampton.
