Hot 102.7FM’s Teddython returns, aiming to raise R20m for communities in need

The annual Teddython fundraiser is back, uniting listeners, partners, and communities in a spirit of generosity to raise money to support people and animals across South Africa.

Teddython, Hot 102.7FM’s much-loved annual fundraiser, is back this year to continue its tradition of compassion and community impact on October 30 at Broadacres Shopping Centre.

While the event doesn’t follow a strict theme, its mission remains the same: to make a real, lasting difference in the lives of those who need it most.

“It’s become an annual tradition of generosity that unites our listeners, partners, and community,” said Lloyd Madurai, managing director of Hot 102.7FM. “Each year, we’re blown away by the scale of giving, reminding us of the power of collective kindness.”

The fundraiser is driven by Hot Cares, the station’s charitable arm, which focuses on four pillars: Humanitarian, Education, Medical, and Animal Welfare.

Past projects have included support for children’s homes and early childhood development centres, funding vital medical interventions, empowering students through education, and assisting animal welfare initiatives.

“Animal welfare is close to our heart,” said Carmen Rocha, managing director of Hot Cares. “We’ve provided a trailer for Rhino Connect to assist injured rhinos and supported sterilisation campaigns. Funds raised this year will continue to make a tangible difference for both people and animals, helping communities thrive and giving hope where it’s needed most.”

For those who cannot attend the in-person event at Papachinos at the shopping centre, there are still ways to participate.
Donations of any size, whether once-off, recurring, or in the form of goods and services, are welcome. Supporters can also contribute online at Hot1027.co.za or call in during the event.

“Every donation, no matter the size, helps us reach another person, family, animal, or community in need,” Rocha added.
This year, Hot Cares has set an ambitious R20m target. Reaching or surpassing this goal would be transformational, extending the organisation’s reach and amplifying its impact across South Africa.

“Everything raised allows us to respond to more needs and multiply the impact of the work we do,” said Madurai.
“The more we raise, the greater the hope we can deliver in 2026, and that’s what drives us every day.”

The enduring success of Teddython, now a fixture in South Africa’s festive fundraising calendar, lies in the commitment of Hot 102.7FM listeners.

“Year after year, our listeners show up not just with donations, but with an open heart. They hear the stories on air, see the impact firsthand, and know their support truly changes lives. The Teddython is their event as much as it is ours, and it’s their unwavering belief in making a difference that keeps the spirit of giving alive,” said Rocha.
