Lonehill residents are singing the praises of City Parks after a large tree toppled on Lonehill Boulevard during windy and rainy conditions on November 16.

The fall caused a complete road closure, with some of the residents concerned about Monday traffic, but the department responded immediately to secure the area and begin a clean-up.

Ward 94 councillor David Foley said the tree toppled at around 4:30 pm. Weather services had earlier warned Gauteng residents about strong winds during the weekend, which contributed to the incident.

“I advised residents to take alternative routes to avoid the fallen tree. Fortunately, Lonehill has plenty of options, so traffic was managed smoothly and without major disruptions.”

A kind gesture was witnessed by passerby, Anneke Andrew, who saw a gentleman and his daughter directing the traffic at the corner of Concourse and Lonehill Boulevard.

“He parked his car in the middle of the road,” she said.

Foley visited the site on November 17 in the morning to assess the situation and expressed his admiration for the turnaround. He said it is all good and motorists can use it freely.

“The team’s response has been nothing short of remarkable. Seeing how quickly they acted to clear the tree and make the area safe is really encouraging. They did not waste time at all,” said Foley.
