“It’s an incredible feeling to represent my province on such a prestigious stage. I love the thrill of performing alongside my team and so many talented contestants. I feel truly privileged to showcase my hard work and passion.”

This year, Mia competed in 39 items across acting, vocal performance, and petite modelling, a demanding schedule that required constant quick changes and tight time management.

“The experience is grueling, but in the best way. I couldn’t do it without my amazing support system, my mom, my coaches, my team, and of course, a steady supply of pancakes and Nando’s.”

Although she excels in multiple disciplines, acting remains her greatest love. “Acting is the one that really brings me to life. For those ninety seconds on stage, I get to become someone else and bring their world to life. It feels like such a privilege.”

Her achievements weren’t limited to her solo work. Mia is also part of the Upstage Concepts vocal group, which walked away with two major awards, including the title of Overall Group Grand Champions.

Mia’s love for the performing arts began at Crawford Preparatory, but it was at eleven years old, when she joined Upstage Concepts, that she found her true passion and sense of belonging.

Along her journey, she has been inspired by mentors, supporters, her parents, and her boyfriend. “They believe in me, even more than I believe in myself. They inspire me to achieve things I sometimes think I cannot.”

Her long-term dreams extend beyond performing. Mia hopes to one day teach drama, write poetry, plays, and books, and continue performing when she can. “Teaching and writing are my biggest goals. I want to share my passion with the younger generation.”

Mia’s parents say watching her grow as a performer has been inspiring. “Her love for the arts has always been a joy to watch,” said her mom, Tamilla.

“People see the sparkle on stage, but not the grit, resilience, and teamwork behind the scenes. We are incredibly proud of everything she has achieved.”

As she prepares for her final school year, and potentially the biggest performance opportunity of her life, Mia continues to represent, not just Fourways, but South Africa’s rising young talent… One medal, one performance, and one dream at a time.
