Dainfern community runs for a cause at inaugural Cansa fun run
Residents of Dainfern Golf Estate laced up their running shoes and dyed their hair for a good cause, raising over R15 000 for Cansa during the estate’s first fun run and sprayathon.
The community of Dainfern Golf Estate came together in a show of unity and compassion during the estate’s first-ever Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) fun run and sprayathon.
The event, held at the estate clubhouse, saw residents, families, and golfers raise R15 430 to support cancer awareness, research, and patient care, as they took part in the 5km fun run and walk. They also enjoyed a colourful sprayathon, where participants had their hair sprayed pink in support of the cause.

According to estate chief executive officer Geraldine Harris, the event was introduced as part of the estate’s efforts to promote wellness and community spirit, while supporting a meaningful cause. “As a management team, we made the decision last year to introduce a Cansa fun run to our annual events calendar.
“We wanted to incorporate a wellness-focused, community-driven initiative that would allow residents to come together for a cause greater than ourselves.”

The initiative took on even deeper meaning for the community after the estate lost a beloved resident to cancer. “Her passing deeply touched many within the community and reinforced the importance of what we were setting out to do.
“Cancer affects us all in some shape or form, and this event became even more meaningful as a way to honour those we have lost, support those currently fighting, and contribute towards the vital work being done by Cansa.”
The morning began with residents gathering early at the clubhouse before setting off on the scenic 5km route through the estate. Participants of all ages, from seasoned runners to families with children, joined the walk or run in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. One of the estate’s partner agencies also stepped in to support the initiative by donating R4 000 towards the fundraising effort.

“While the event was intimate in size, the enthusiasm and generosity of our residents and golfers was exceptional. There was a wonderful sense of unity and purpose throughout the morning.”
Harris said all funds raised will be donated directly to Cansa to assist with cancer education, screening programmes, patient support services, and ongoing research.
Although participation numbers were slightly lower than expected, partly due to the weather, Harris said the generosity of those who attended made a significant impact. “Residents and golfers contributed wholeheartedly, allowing us to surpass our initial fundraising milestone. The spirit of giving truly defined the day.”
Following the success of the inaugural event, the estate plans to make the fun run an annual tradition. “This was the beginning of what we believe will become a meaningful annual tradition within Dainfern Golf Estate.
“The strong support and heartfelt response from the community have encouraged us to build on this foundation. Residents can absolutely expect an even bigger and more impactful event next year.”
