City Power calls on homeowners to declare solar installations to protect electricity network

All grid-tied and hybrid solar systems must be registered with City Power, to protect customers, electricians, and technicians from electrical risks.

City Power is calling on all Johannesburg homeowners and property owners with grid-tied and hybrid solar installations to immediately declare and register their systems.

The electricity utility says registration is compulsory and plays a vital role in protecting the city’s electricity network.

Declaring a solar installation ensures the system complies with national technical standards and municipal safety requirements.

City Power says the move helps protect customers, electricians, and its own technicians from risks that include electrical faults, back-feeding into the network, and power quality disruptions.

Unregistered installations can compromise the safety and stability of the entire electricity network, the utility warns.
