Junior College Sunninghill turns trash into treasure
Learners showcase creativity and environmental awareness through a vibrant recycled fashion initiative.
In celebration of World Recycling Day, Junior College Sunninghill came alive with colour, creativity, and a strong message of sustainability as learners took part in a unique recycled fashion initiative.
The school community came together in an inspiring display of innovation, with learners designing and creating eye-catching outfits using recycled and repurposed materials.
From newspaper dresses and plastic bag capes to cardboard accessories and bottle-top embellishments, the runway was filled with imaginative designs that transformed everyday waste into wearable art.

Principal Bev Singh said the initiative not only sparked creativity among learners but also reinforced the importance of recycling and environmental responsibility. Each outfit told its own story, reflecting both the learners’ artistic flair and their growing awareness of the role they can play in protecting the planet.
She also praised the initiative and the enthusiasm shown by learners.
“This celebration is a wonderful example of how creativity and education can come together to inspire meaningful change. Our learners have shown that sustainability can be both impactful and fun, and we are incredibly proud of their efforts.”
The event highlighted the school’s ongoing commitment to nurturing responsible global citizens, encouraging learners to think beyond the classroom and take action in their everyday lives.
