Acting head of department: Regional operations Mpho Maruping confirmed that the storm water repair and replacement work is currently underway, with significant progress made on site. He said the scope of work includes the reconstruction of the storm water structure, as well as the footway and tar reinstatement.

According to Maruping, delays in completing the project were due to inclement weather and the Easter holidays, which affected progress on site. Maruping added that the agency is working towards finalising the repairs by April 17, provided weather conditions remain favourable.

The update follows ongoing concerns raised by Ward 106 councillor Chris Santana regarding prolonged delays, repeated damage, and safety risks at the site, which has persisted for more than 18 months. It began after a pipe burst repair allegedly damaged a storm water inlet.
