Hirsch’s Fourways takes Earth Day onto the streets with pothole repairs and a clean-up drive
The home appliances, electronics, and home furnishings store celebrated the day by repairing potholes and cleaning up surrounding streets as growing frustration over deteriorating road conditions pushed them to act.
Residents and motorists in Fourways saw more than just awareness campaigns this Earth Day, as Hirsch’s Fourways stepped out of its showroom on April 22 and onto the streets to make a tangible difference.
The store, led by its team and supported by Hirsch’s giving back initiatives, spent the day repairing potholes and cleaning up areas surrounding the business.
According to Michelle Paine, public relations officer at Hirsch’s Fourways, the initiative was driven by a desire to give back in a meaningful way.

“Today we are celebrating Earth Day, and because Hirsch’s gives, we decided to open up the store to clients and the community. We’d like to give back, and we have decided to fix potholes around the store and the area. We’re also doing a clean-up, so we’re really inspired by this.

“We decided to go to Leroy Merlin and buy proper materials for these potholes. We’re going to keep doing this and try to maintain it for our community.”
The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, with residents expressing appreciation for the effort.
“People are rooting for us, and they’re happy. It makes us feel great because we’re just doing something good.” Paine said that the initiative was not only about goodwill, it was also about addressing a daily frustration shared by staff and residents alike.

“We are so sick of the potholes. We drive here every single day, and we’re suffering with our cars. Our clients are suffering; everyone is suffering. Fourways is so full of potholes, we might as well swim in it. So, we have to fix it.”
Despite previous reports to the relevant authorities, the problem persists. “It just gets worse and worse,” Paine noted, adding that this is not the first time the business has taken matters into its own hands.
“We have fixed them before, and we’re going to keep on doing it until someone actually takes action.”
