Bryan Brook Estate leak repair underway after two-year delay

Johannesburg Water contractors begin tunnelling work and pipe installation to resolve the persistent leak outside Bryan Brook Estate, after years of finger pointing between Johannesburg Water and JRA.

After two years of frustration, repair work is finally under way to resolve the long-standing water leak outside Bryan Brook Estate on Witkoppen Road.

Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy confirmed that Johannesburg Water (JW) contractors have started the work on site, draining the affected area and carrying out tunnelling work beneath the road to install a new pipe.

The intervention aims to address water flowing underneath the road surface, which has contributed to ongoing damage.

Reddy explained that the new pipe will help channel water into storm water systems on either side of Witkoppen Road, preventing further seepage beneath the roadway.

“Contractors are also repairing the leak and will attend to road damage caused by the water, including potholes and affected sections of the surface.”

Reddy said the current intervention represents a more comprehensive attempt to resolve the issue after previous uncertainty around the source of the water.

JW has been contacted for comment on what finally prompted the decision to proceed with repairs after two years of shifting responsibility between itself and Johannesburg Roads Agency.
