Balder Road repairs enter final phase
After years of delays, bursts, and repeated repairs, Balder Road is finally nearing completion, with only finishing touches remaining.
Balder Road in Douglasdale is finally nearing the end of a long and frustrating chapter, as Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) moves into the final stages of road reinstatement.
Following the repair of the long-standing leak by Johannesburg Water, roadworks is now largely complete, with only minor finishing work still to be carried out.
Ward 106 councillor Chris Santana confirmed that while significant progress has been made, a few elements still need attention before the project can be fully wrapped up.

“They’re going to still do the curbing and the paving on the side here.
Other than that, it’s also just to clean up the site and finish fixing up the rest of the potholes in Balder Road. Then we can finally say that this job will be done.”

Santana added that follow-up will be needed to ensure all aspects of the work are completed properly.

“I have to follow up on when they’re going to remove all the rubble, but we’ll have to play around and see what happens in the upcoming days.”
The near-completion of the project marks a milestone for residents, who have endured more than three and a half years of recurring pipe bursts, failed repairs, and worsening road conditions.
