Ward 94 is set to bloom with 700 trees
Councillor David Foley is calling on residents to participate in a survey that will guide where the 700 donated trees will be planted.
Residents in Ward 94 will soon see their streets getting a little greener.
700 trees are set to be planted across the area, something ward councillor David Foley says he’s genuinely excited about.
The idea came after Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, through regional manager Dr Joseph Ndou, approached him about the opportunity.

Instead of making the call on his own, Foley says he wanted residents to be part of the decision, so a survey was sent out to see who would like trees planted along their streets.
Mulbarton Road, in Lonehill, is already among those that have come on board. “It’s going to be really beautiful, especially in summer.
You can picture people out walking, enjoying the shade and the atmosphere. Trees do so much more than just look good; they help cool things down and make the environment more pleasant for everyone.”
Foley admits that he will be floating on cloud nine as the project starts to take shape. While Ward 94 is already known for its greenery, Foley says this has made him realise there’s always room for more.
“You don’t always notice what’s missing until you start paying attention. That’s why we’re so happy to welcome this, and I’d really encourage residents to take part in the survey and be part of it.
“I’m absolutely thrilled about this opportunity, and I’ll be submitting the names very soon. I always try to involve the community in bigger decisions and ideas, so I shared it as widely as possible.”

He added that many of the suggested planting spots came from residents, which he sees as a positive sign of community involvement.
“That’s really encouraging, but I would have loved to see an additional list of maybe 100 more trees on other streets too, just so we can start planning ahead, because, honestly, 700 trees might not be enough. We may need even more over time.”
Foley said the survey process is key to making the project inclusive.
“I always tell residents, please do your best to share information, the more the merrier. If we use up the 700 trees, we can always look at adding more streets in future.”
