Post boxes left exposed in Kingfisher parking area
Residents in Fourways are raising concerns after a large bank of post boxes, linked to the local post office, was allegedly moved without notice to an unsecured, open parking area near Kingfisher.
A large bank of post boxes, linked to the local post office, was allegedly moved without notice and left unsecured in a parking area near Kingfisher.
This has led for concerns for Sharman Chenery, a Fourways resident, who said she discovered the issue by chance while visiting the area recently.

According to her, the post boxes were previously located in a more secure section within the Kingfisher business area. However, when she visited last week, the original site had reportedly been converted into another business space.
“We went there and there was nothing. Then we noticed that the boxes had been moved into the middle of the car park.”
Chenery claimed that many of the boxes no longer have functioning locks, raising concerns about the security of residents’ mail. “None of those boxes have got locks and about 90% of them just have little handwritten numbers on them. You can just open them. Your key doesn’t fit anymore.”
She said she continues to pay annual subscriptions for the post boxes and expects the facilities to remain secure and properly maintained. “You pay your subscription every year and certainly they should have proper locked-up boxes that you pay for.”

Although some street mail deliveries have recently started in parts of Fourways, Chenery said many residents still rely on the post boxes because certain businesses continue using postal services. “There must be a lot of people still using them because it’s quite a huge area of boxes.”
Chenery also said they were allegedly not informed about the relocation. “We didn’t get any kind of notification at all.”
