Diepsloot residents intensify calls for action with weekly anti-illegal immigration Thursday protests
The residents are marching through the streets of Diepsloot, with plans to submit a memorandum to the South African Police Service calling for police-assisted door-to-door operations to identify undocumented foreign nationals.
Residents gathered at the Diepsloot Extension 1 taxi rank on July 16 before marching through the township to call for stronger action against undocumented foreign nationals living in the area.
Jacob Shika, who is the organiser of the march, said the campaign aims to urge authorities to tighten enforcement of immigration laws.

“We will march every Thursday until this matter is settled. Our call is for undocumented foreigners to be identified and for the relevant authorities to take action.”
Shika said the group wants police to assist with door-to-door operations to identify undocumented foreign nationals, adding that organisers believe this will help address some of the challenges facing the community.
A representative from Africa Mayibuye Movement, Andrew Malema, also voiced his support for the march. “We aim to limit undocumented foreigners in Diepsloot because we believe every community should stand for its own while ensuring that the law is respected.”

The march is expected to proceed through parts of Diepsloot, with organisers encouraging residents to participate peacefully.
The organisers had not yet formally requested police assistance for these operations.
Marchers were directed to the Diepsloot Police Station, where they handed over a memorandum outlining their demands.
