Dainfern Golf Estate fills 500 Jars of Love for Mandela Day
Residents, volunteers and local businesses joined forces to pack 500 Jars of Love filled with nutritious ingredients for families in the Thabo Mbeki settlement.
To celebrate Mandela Day, the Dainfern Golf Estate community came together on July 18 to turn simple pantry staples into meaningful acts of kindness, packing more than 500 Jars of Love for families in the Thabo Mbeki settlement.
The initiative, hosted by Dainfern Golf Estate in partnership with Engel & Völkers, encouraged residents to spend their 67 minutes making a difference by donating empty glass jars and non-perishable food items throughout July before gathering at the Dainfern clubhouse for the final packing session.

Each jar was carefully layered with a dry soup mix, soup powder, rice or pasta, and a stock cube, creating a nutritious meal that can feed an entire family.
Dainfern Golf Estate’s Tilani Edwards said the initiative was made possible through collaboration between residents and community partners.
“We reached out to residents and asked for donations. Engel & Völkers, who also operate within the estate, came on board as the sponsor, while resident Sue Harwood from Bags of Love introduced us to the Jars of Love concept, shared the recipe and connected us with a distributor who will deliver the jars.”

She explained that the project was chosen because of its simplicity and impact.
“We specifically wanted to do this for Mandela Day and called on residents to give their 67 minutes by volunteering to pack the jars. The idea is that one jar contains everything needed to prepare a nutritious meal that can feed a whole family. It’s a simple way of making a real difference.”

Representing Engel & Völkers, Ayanda Twala described the day as an inspiring display of community spirit.
“It’s such an amazing initiative to be part of, allowing us to share love with our community. We hope this is something we can continue next year. Thank you to everyone who came, to our incredible sponsors and to every volunteer who supported the project.”
Volunteer Ashley Robinson said Mandela Day served as an important reminder that everyone has a role to play in uplifting those less fortunate.
“I think it’s important for us to get out there and help underprivileged people and do our part for the country. We are facing many challenges, and initiatives like this are very important. The team has done an amazing job collecting jars and donations, and I believe this will make a real difference.”
