Preparations are complete at Kyalami Equestrian Park ahead of the 2026 Toyota South African Dressage Championships, which run from September 8 to 13. The week-long event showcases dressage, a discipline built around harmony, trust and partnership between horse and rider through progressive training.

The sport highlights the horse’s willingness, suppleness, balance, power and expression, guided by the rider’s subtle communication and skill.’

This year’s championships feature four national titles: the SA Adult Interprovincial Dressage Team Championships, SA Adult Individual Dressage Championships, SA Adult Freestyle Championships and SA Para-Equestrian Championships.

Show director Angie Meredith said competitors and spectators can expect world-class competition, with two international judges set to officiate. Malgorzata Pawlowska, from Poland, and Nicole Nockemann, from Germany, both level 3 judges with the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), will bring extensive international experience to the championships. Their involvement is expected to ensure judging of the highest standard while further elevating the profile of South African dressage.

Adding to the excitement, Toyota South Africa Motors will once again award one of the 2026 Toyota South African Dressage Champions a brand-new Toyota Starlet Cross. The prize has generated significant interest and record entries, setting the stage for a highly competitive championship in which one horse-and-rider combination will drive away with the vehicle.

The 2026 championships also mark five years of partnership between Toyota and Kyalami Park Club, a collaboration that has helped grow the sport by attracting new audiences and encouraging greater participation. The partnership has also contributed to establishing the championships as one of South Africa’s premier equestrian events. With elite competition, internationally acclaimed judges and a major prize on offer, organisers expect this year’s championships to be the biggest and most exciting edition yet.

The event will bring together riders, grooms, instructors, officials, families, friends and supporters to celebrate the achievements of South Africa’s leading dressage combinations and recognise the dedication, discipline and pursuit of excellence that defines the sport.

Entry to the championships is free, with organisers welcoming members of the public to attend the equestrian extravaganza.
