With nearly two decades of early childhood development experience, the new principal brings fresh plans and a passion for young learners to the school community.
Former aspiring mechanical engineer Aimee Shaw has taken the helm as principal at Junior College Fourways, bringing nearly two decades of early childhood development experience to the school.
Shaw shifted her career path from engineering to education after working a school holiday job before university, realising her true passion lay in teaching young learners.

“I just realised this is where my love lies – with children. I connect well with children, especially the younger children,” she said.
Beginning as an assistant, Shaw advanced through various roles, including teacher, head of department and deputy principal, before earning her current position as principal.
Before her appointment at Fourways, she served as deputy principal at Junior College Waterkloof in Centurion.
Shaw initially stepped in as acting principal while the previous head, Bianca Durrant, was on maternity leave, later securing the permanent role following a formal selection process that included psychometric testing and management interviews.

“I can’t wait to see the school grow and the community get to see us. We’ll reach out into the community and do different projects, and just get the name of Junior College out,” said Shaw.
Focus on community and engaging learning
“Parents can expect to see big things happening. We have had a lot of change happen in the school, and get ready for more changes because I’ve got a lot of plans to make the school beautiful.”
With most of her teaching experience focused on Grade R and younger learners, Shaw believes the early years of education are critical in shaping a child’s future.
At Junior College Fourways, she hopes to ensure that learning remains engaging and purposeful while giving children the skills they need as they progress through school.
