Junior College Fourways calls for soup and socks donations for Diepsloot school
The local school continues its termly outreach drive, collecting essential items to support young learners at its partner institution.
Junior College Fourways is calling on parents and the wider community to help support its partner school from Diepsloot by donating Cup-a-Soup packages and socks for young learners.
The school has placed a collection basket at its entrance, where parents can drop off donations. The items will be delivered to the partner school at the beginning of next term.

Junior College Fourways Principal Aimee Shaw said the donation drive forms part of the school’s ongoing community outreach programme, with a different need identified for each term.
“We have taken a school under our wing to support them and to help them,” said Shaw. Previous collections included stationery and toiletries.
“We have had a lot of interest from parents. Sometimes they will bring a whole bag of soup instead of just one package.”
The school collected two crates of stationery during its first drive, while the toiletries collection resulted in about four boxes of essential items.
“They brought facecloths, toothbrushes and floor-cleaning products so that they could keep the school clean, as well as soap, petroleum jelly and wet wipes for the kids,” said Shaw.

This term, the school is asking families to contribute Cup-a-Soup packages and socks, which can provide some practical support for the young learners at the partner school.
For Shaw, however, the initiative is about more than the items being donated.
“It’s just community outreach, showing children that doing these things for other schools is, you know, we help each other,” she said.
“It doesn’t matter where we come from. It doesn’t matter our lifestyle. We must help and be kind and do what we can for other schools.”
Shaw said the project gives children an opportunity to learn the importance of helping others and making an effort to support their community.
“This is just our community outreach and teaching children these skills in life on doing more and going out of your way and helping where you can,” she said.
Parents and community members who would like to contribute can place Cup-a-Soup or pairs of socks in the collection basket at the entrance of Junior College Fourways or contact ashaw@juniorcolleges.co.za.
