Cats will always be at shopping centres

Loshni Reddy speaks out about the feral cats at the Leaping Frog Shopping Centre

It is a great disappointment to hear about the removal of the feral cats from the Leaping Frog Shopping Centre (Cat fight on social media, week ending 19 July).

A decision like this can be derived only from ignorant management or owners of the centre. Feral cats should not be displaced from their environment.

The removal of one colony allows for another colony to move in. Hence the problem will be ongoing. The only way that this issue can be resolved is not by removing the feral cats but by simple management of the cats on the premises, they must also be fed and neutered.

Organisations that work with feral cats on a daily basis have valuable insight and should therefore be consulted to provide a peaceful co-habitation of the cats in its environment. There are cats in every shopping centre and will always be the case.
