While en route to work through Douglasdale I managed to take a picture of the apparent new taxi lanes in use by a taxi driver.
The service lane runs along Douglas Road toward Bryanston and the access point is on the corner of Leslie and Douglas roads. There is currently what appears to be a rudimentary ‘slipway’ after the curb has been mounted, however, local government still needs to do some work on the access point, as well as tar the road. With some careful and precision driving though, one is able to nevertheless successfully move around the traffic light and mount the curb in order to access it.
I had noticed the lane being used on a number of previous occasions, but only yesterday managed to take a picture with sufficient clarity as proof of local government’s measures to assist taxi services as well as alleviate the traffic pressure on Douglas Road during congested periods.
A pedestrian walkway along the route must still be under discussion, thus any pedestrians making use of the taxi lane in the interim are urged to do so with caution. On behalf of all motorists and pedestrians that pass through the area I would just like to thank the local traffic police for their vigilance in ensuring that all road rules are followed thereby keeping our road and pavement users as safe as possible at all times.
Yours in motoring and pedestrian safety, Peter.
