I was shopping at Broadacres Shopping Centre last weekend when after coming out of the Spar, the heavens opened up with a heavy downpour.
I needed to run about 50m to get to my car with shopping bags in hand, so I decided to wait for it to let up.
While waiting, I was ‘treated’ to the sight and sound of a red Ferrari 458 Italia coasting past me, looking for a parking bay close to the shops – and shelter.
When the rain let up five minutes later, I walked to my car and passed the Ferrari, now parked in the disabled parking zone, with no disabled sticker in sight.
The other disabled parking spot close to the Spar already had a car, with a disabled sticker, parked there.
Hopefully, no disabled person was looking for a parking bay at the time.
I believe that people with such disregard for others should be named and shamed as much as possible.
With the Winter Paralympic Games being broadcast on sport and news channels, you would think that people are more aware of the challenges that disabled people face and respect the facilities that are created for their
convenience – and not for the wealthy who don’t want to get their hair wet.
