In a world that seems to be filled with bad news, it’s nice to be reminded that we live in a community filled with people who care for others.
With that in mind, I would like to share a recent act of kindness I experienced in the hope it brings joy to our readers.
On 29 August, I was visiting the Witkoppen Clinic on William Nicol Drive to cover a story for the Fourways Review. As the clinic parking lot was full, I parked outside the building on the slanted embankment, grabbed my camera and ran inside to do my work. An hour or so later I came out to a problem I hadn’t anticipated – my little Honda, so adept at squeezing into tiny parking spots and getting me where I need to go, could not get out of the space.
I put it in reverse and revved my engine. I readjusted. I revved again. And again, and again. I panicked, realising that my car was well and truly stuck and didn’t care that I was already late. And then I was reminded of how special the Fourways community is.
Eamon of NightGuard Security pulled up alongside me in his company vehicle and asked if I was having trouble. Close to tears at this point, I explained my difficulty and without hesitation, he got out of his car and spent 20 minutes helping me, even though it certainly wasn’t his job and I am not even a NightGuard client. Thanks to his help, I was on my way again and able to keep my other commitments.
So Eamon, thank you for taking the time to assist a complete stranger, even though you had nothing to gain from your efforts. I’m so proud to share a community with you.
