A dam good run for Lonehill
LONEHILL - To raise funds for their Save the Lonehill Dam project, the annual Lonehill Family Run is taking place later this month.
The event was started by St Peter’s Prepratory school for boys and was sponsored by Otter Estates of Lonehill to raise funds for the “Save the Lonehill Dam” project 10 years ago.
The initial run attracted over 200 entrants and has continued to grow each year. This year the Lonehill Resident’s Assocciation expect to attract about 1200 entries. The association is continuing their partnership with Otter Estates and St Peter’s school.
The school is also part of planning the event, while the Lonehill Branch of Run/Walk for Life is assisting with marshaling.
The Lonehill Village Church has also been appointed to the half-way watering hole, proving that community involvement is a recipe for success.
The start and finish will be at the Lonehill dam and park on 20 July. Registration takes place from 1pm on the day, with the starting gun set to fire at 2pm.
Entrance is only R30, with funds raised going towards the upkeep of the park and dam. There will also be a food drive where non-perishable food can be donated which will be distributed by Lonehill Village Church.
Except for the top three male and female race winners and the top three school-aged boys and girls running for voucher prizes, spot prizes are also up for grabs.
