Fabienne makes debut in Legends racing car

KYALAMI - The Phakisa Race, held in July, was Fabienne Lanz' first race in a legend-type car. It was also a first for Legends SA, who had never had a woman leading the sprint race.

The Liqui Moly-sponsored Legends car proved a real challenge for Lanz, who was only accustomed to the high grip level in a kart. In only three sessions of practice Lanz managed to get her lap-times into a respectable position for qualifying, and managed to set pole position for the start of the first race.

Leading the pack into the second race of the day, Lanz enjoyed mixing in with the rest of the male grid, and held her position until clutch problems curtailed her attempt at a win.

Lanz said the Phakisa circuit was the only oval track in South Africa. “It is a great drivers track with its fast flowing corners, and very tough right-hand corners really showed the high G-forces at speed.”

With the body roll and tight seatbelt, Fabienne revelled in the new experience – compared to the kart which is so easy to get in and out of. “This is the second time I have raced at Phakisa now and I am loving it more every time I come. My dad has won here several times and it’s awesome to compare notes with him and to follow his successes here,” she commented.

“A big thanks to the team and all the sponsors onboard,” she said
