Another podium for Bonafede
DAINFERN - Dainfern's, Gennaro Bonafede finished third overall at the penultimate round of the Bridgestone Production Car Championship at Killarney, Cape Town.
The 23-year-old is following in the footsteps of his motorsport champion grandfather and multiple rally champion father by making a name for himself in the motorsport industry.
An almost gale force icy wind complicated engineers’ strategy as they took a gamble on settings for qualifying. “It was tricky as a gusting tail wind meant we arrived at turn one carrying a lot more speed than usual which made braking a bit dicey,” said Gennaro.
An almost incident free opening race was played like a game of chess and Bonafede finished in the same position that he started in. Race two was a lot livelier and he finished third. Race three was run over 14 laps and counted for double points. From third position on lap one he dropped to fifth, but passed Johan Fourie to take fourth position a lap later. Although the pace was frenetic, positions remained static and Bonafede finished fourth tucked behind championship leader Michael Stephen.
“It was not a bad day, but it could have been better,” Bonafede admitted.
