Pony riders awarded

KYALAMI - The Gauteng Pony Rider Awards evening was held on 22 June at The Private Room in Kyalami.

Tiffany Dewar of South Africa Showjumping said the evening was held ahead of the 2014 SA Pony Rider Championships, which are taking place at Kyalami Equestrian Park until 6 July.

At the awards ceremony, the riders were selected to represent Gauteng in team competitions at various levels and disciplines in the 2014 SA Pony Rider Championships.

Dewar said teams and riders from all provinces are competing in the show. She said young rider and Beaulieu College pupil Alexa Stais was guest speaker at the awards evening. This after she was selected to compete at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, to be held in August, in the equestrian athlete category.

Another rider who made the short-list of the Youth Olympic Games Equestrian Athletes Zoleka Mosiah was also at the awards ceremony.

President of Gauteng Provincial Sports Council Barry Hendricks, secretary general of the South African Equestrian Federation Wessel Strauss and chairperson Gauteng Equestrian Provincial Federation Dianne Smith also attended the awards.
