Daredevils run for cancer
ZOO LAKE – Hollard's Daredevil runners arrived at Zoo Lake and donned purple Speedos to show their support for the fight against cancer.
When asked how he was feeling before the run began, first time runner from Hollard, Shaun Demmer said, “I’m excited and terrified. It’s a good cause, though and I’ve been following the race for many years so when you see all the awareness that’s been raised about cancer, it kind of washes away the fear of wearing a Speedo and running across town.”
The race began at Zoo Lake Bowling Club and the runners proceeded towards the Hollard Campus on Oxford Road.
The campus was the halfway point of the 5km run and provided not only a place to get water on the hot day, but was also a party venue where there was Holi One powder paint being thrown, and a live band performing.
From that point the men ran back to the start point where there were various activities taking place such as the Hollard Check Yourself activation point as well as the Prostate-Specific Antigen Testing station for men.
Cansa also set up a SunScreen booth where attendees of the event could get protection from the harmful rays to protect themselves from skin cancer.
The event was a great success with an impressive number of men stripping down to run cancer out of town.
