Father and son paddle their way to victory

FOURWAYS- Father and son team David and Dylan Brown from Fourways competed in, and thoroughly enjoyed, their first-ever BASF Novice River race on 18 April.

The race hosted by Watuni Canoe Club kicked off the new river racing season on 18 April. While the weather was gloomy with a chill wind, the new paddlers basked in the warm sun which cleared the clouds and thoroughly enjoyed their first river race.

The race was shorter than usual to accommodate inexperienced paddlers and took place from Henley On Klip off the R59 and finished in Meyerton, a distance of nearly 15km.

While there were a number of new paddlers from all areas of Gauteng, some experienced paddlers also enjoyed the opportunity to get back on the river after a few months layoff, in some cases even a few years.

Dylan Brown was thrilled to partner up with his more experienced father and start gaining experience and mastering river skills. The duo finished their first river race together in 01:17:00. The family are members of the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club based at Emmarentia Dam.
