Heading to the top one hole at a time

DAINFERN – Dainfern College Grade 12 pupil David Meyers will be aiming high in 2016 in his ongoing quest for international golfing success.

The talented golfer moved to Dainfern College in Grade 5 as it offered a better education and sporting opportunities and was awarded a high school scholarship in recognition of his golfing potential.

Meyers won the South African National Golf Champs when he was just 15; he then became a member of the Ernie Els Fancourt Foundation in Grade 10, which supported him with his golf development. Meyers then went on to represent South Africa in Italy and Indonesia the same year; and finishing 9th in a field of 250 of the best junior golfers in the world in the Callaway Junior World Golf Champs in the USA.

He played in two games against Scotland in Grade 11, and this year has won two provincial titles and was a member of the winning Central Gauteng golf team that lifted the inter-provincial trophy for a record 27th time.

The passionate golfer is currently ranked 8th in the South African Golf Association men’s open amateur rankings, and has worked extremely hard to maintain good grades whilst carrying out his hectic golf schedule. Meyers credits Dainfern College with allowing him the flexibility to fit his schoolwork around his golf commitments. He explained that he was grateful for the constant support and encouragement he received from the school, and his matric teachers in particular.

Meyers has won a full golf scholarship to Oklahoma City University in the USA where he will study towards a Bachelor of Business Administration.
