Sandton welcomes the biggest street mile

FOURWAYS – Put on your running shoes and enter your teams for the KPMG SunMile.

Fredman Drive in Sandton will be a hive of activity on Thursday evening 6 April when runners from all over the country participate in the biggest street mile event in the country.

One of the main reasons why the KPMG SunMile is held is to encourage camaraderie between friends and colleagues through corporate wellness. The event also provides a platform for South Africa’s elite runners and raises funds for the Heart Foundation through the Executive Challenge.

Runners will recall that the race was postponed earlier this year due to inclement weather. “Ultimately we made the right decision to postpone [it] as the safety of our runners will always be of utmost importance. We want to bring back the street mile with a bang, for participants to run, celebrate and support others. It’s an event that brings people together. Come 6pm on Thursday 6 April, we’ll be setting the Sandton streets alight,” said KPMG’s Pierre Jacobs.

The route will include live performances, pumping music and DJs at the finish, including a live performance by Rubber Duc. The News Café precinct will celebrate with food and drinks galore.

“There’s plenty for our nearly 2 000 entrants to look forward to, including an event T-shirt, finishers medal and free race photos posted to their social media pages,” said Jacobs.

“The Heart Foundation is of primary importance to this event and we’ve already raised in excess of R50 000 for them thanks to the CEO challenge. Miss and Mrs South Africa will also be present on race day and enjoy the festivities and fabulous celebrations of healthy living, exercise and friendship.”

Entries can still be made on the day. There will be a partial closure of Fredman Drive from 10am and a full road closure from 4pm.
