Cluny swimmers make a splash
BEAULIEU – A number of swimmers of Cluny Farm Centre recently excelled at the Special Olympics SA Swimming Gala in mid-July.
Despite challenges and the cold weather, a few residents of Cluny Farm Centre in Beaulieu participated in the Special Olympics South Africa Swimming Gala at the Linden Swimming pool on 14 July.
Cluny Farm is, for many residents, a ‘home for life’ where they live and grow to reach their full potential. Sharon Theron, the general manager at the centre as well as her colleagues, are all so proud of the residents as they are indeed inspirational and exceptional people.
“Despite working daily on the farm in the bakery, dairy and laundry and participating in crafts, the residents are very eager to participate in events such as swimming, golfing and the Special Olympics and can become very competitive,” she added.
The resident’s results were as follows:
• Dawn Smith took first place in the 25m breaststroke event
• Yvette Niemann took third place in the 25m breaststroke
• Chantelle Erasmus took second place in the women’s 25m freestyle
• Gaynor Murray took third place in the women’s 25m freestyle event, while fourth place went to Grace Tyers
• Melissa Burke came seventh in the 25m women’s freestyle
• Johan du Plessis took seventh place in the 25m freestyle
• Darren Adams was fourth in the men’s 25m breaststroke while Warren
Mitchell earned a fifth place and second place in the 25m men’s butterfly.
