Showjumping champ motivates others

BLUE HILLS – Former SA showjumping champion, Dominey Alexander starts motivation Monday messages.

Former SA showjumping champion, Dominey Alexander has encouraged the community to remain positive during this difficult time.

The owner of Cellehof Stud and Livery advised people to take it easy in the light of the lockdown and coronavirus pandemic.

“In the equestrian business most people are goal-oriented and are not sure what to do with themselves now,” he said.

“There have been no competitions and people have been phoning me to say they feel terrible. But it is very important to stay positive. I have been able to encourage them and in a way the lockdown has been nice because my relationships with people have improved.”

In light of the circumstances, Alexander is starting motivation Monday posts on Facebook to help people stay positive. In his first post, Alexander ran on a treadmill with music in the background.

His post included the text: ‘Shows starting up slowly, nothing like some speed work to improve your mental and physical strength and endurance, and great.’ He said he had used the extra time to train his clients’ horses at home, rather than doing nothing and feeling sorry for himself.

“This lockdown has forced us to spend time training horses because they are not competing. So they have improved on the basics [of equestrian disciplines].”
