Sunninghill Striders hit the road again with four weekly runs
SUNNINGHILL – Local running club hosts four weekly runs to keep its members active.
Sunninghill Striders Running Club have received the go-ahead from government to resume and they are already hosting four weekly runs with more on the horizon.
Central Gauteng Athletics recently gave running clubs the green light to open again under lockdown Level 3, under certain safety protocols.
Striders’ club captain, Melissa Combrink confirmed the running club hosted time trials every Tuesday from 6pm starting and finishing at St Stephen’s Anglican Church, Sunninghill.
To adhere to government regulations, the club hosts morning runs at 5.30am on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Combrink hopes to launch weekend runs in the near future.
During hard lockdown last year, Sunninghill Striders hosted and participated in several virtual runs.The Comrades Marathon went virtual with the Race the Comrades Legends run, and this turned out to be a highlight.
Sunninghill Striders challenged its members to each run a total of 90km over a period of seven days in June, with the final day coinciding with the Race the Comrades Legends.
This was a roaring success, with 38 club members completing the 90km challenge.
Furthermore, Smunda Mokoena ran an incredible 138.8km in total and Roger Buck 113.9km. Combined, club members ran a total of 6 018km during that week.
