Beaulieu girls put on a good show
FOURWAYS – Three goals for Beaulieu player Tamika Kock and a clean sheet for goalkeeper Chené Tregoning ensured a victorious day for the U18 indoor side.
The U18 Beaulieu hockey girls team impressed when the girls took part in the Series 24 Gauteng Gryphons Indoor Hockey Tournament on 13 February.
The girls’ division of the tournament took place at two different venues with Beaulieu scheduled to play two matches on the day.

Beaulieu’s first match against the Legends started off too slow, according to Jesse Salo who stood in as coach for Grant Poulton. After some words of encouragement from Salo in a time-out session, Beaulieu picked up the pace.
And it paid off when Tamika Kock deflected the ball from a penalty corner to give Beaulieu the lead with Lamya Patel adding another. “We needed to take that time out, in the beginning, to wake them up a little bit. But they got better as the match went on,” Salo explained.
“I don’t think we took all of our chances, but the ones we did take, we put them away.”
The team won that first match 4–0 , ready to face the Falcons.
In their second match, Beaulieu took on the Falcons in, what coach Poulton deemed, the ‘semi-final’ of the pool. Six minutes into the game, Patel scored the first and only goal of the game for Beaulieu. What followed was hard running from both teams and solid defence from Beaulieu.
Falcons had numerous chances from penalty corners to score in the last five minutes of the match, but Beaulieu’s goalkeeper Chené Tregoning pulled off some magnificent saves to deny their opponents.
Poulton, who had taken charge of this game, said it was an interesting one.
“The girls definitely came to the party. Last week, we only had five players and this time we had a full team. They came together as a team, so I’m happy it was a win,” he said.
