Centennial Schools continues eSports winning streak with ComicCon Africa 2024’s Minecraft Championship title
Participating schools prepared through the Open Schools League, developing teamwork, critical thinking, and technological skills. RGB Gaming plans to host more events, including the annual Redstone Royal Minecraft tournament.
RGB Gaming played host to an electrifying Minecraft Championship at ComicCon Africa 2024, as 14 primary school teams vied for top honors, with Centennial Schools emerging victorious once more.
Jaco Sauer, from RGB Gaming, said the energy in the venue was palpable as students competed in this beloved game.

“The crowd, made up of fans, friends, and families, cheered loudly, creating a buzz that heightened with every intense moment and close call in the game.”
He said as the students built, battled, and navigated their way through the Minecraft worlds, the spectators were on the edge of their seats, reacting to each clever move, collaboration, and surprising turn of events.
“The cheers grew louder during the final stages of the competition, with teams striving for victory. The tournament had a mix of camaraderie, rivalry, and pure enthusiasm for the game, all contributing to the vibrant, high-energy atmosphere.”
Participating primary schools had to leverage their experience in the Open Schools League to prepare for the Minecraft Championship. Sauer said regular training sessions where the teams practiced various aspects of Minecraft gameplay, such as resource management, building techniques, and combat strategies were part of the preparations.

“Many of these students had been involved in league matches earlier in the year; they have analyzed past performances, learning from their experiences to improve their tactics and adaptability.
“Centennial Schools’ success in eSports, especially in events like these, serves as a powerful example for other schools, highlighting the potential of structured eSports programs. Their achievements demonstrate how a well-developed eSports curriculum can foster teamwork, critical thinking, and technological skills, making it an attractive addition to school activities.”
Centennial Schools, in Sunninghill, claimed victory over Montrose Primary School, adding another impressive win to their record, fresh off their Minecraft Tournament triumph at the Dubai eSports Festival earlier this year – an African first.
Sauer said RGB Gaming’s future plans include a range of events, from small-scale school competitions to large festivals like ComicCon and rAge, as well as the annual Africa-focused Redstone Royal Minecraft tournament.
