The Diepsloot Adelaide Tambo Extension 13 Ground came alive on November 23 as local youth footballers took centre stage in the Inkunzi Isematholeni Tournament.

Coach Peggy Makubo, chairperson of Killer Boys FC, said the event was a fantastic opportunity for development.

“To be honest, the tournament went really great, top-notch. Despite the rain and a team trying to disrupt it, the boys got to learn different skills from each other.”

Makubo highlighted the excitement in the U11 division, noting that the young players displayed impressive football intelligence, creating spaces, executing short and long passes, and playing with a maturity beyond their years.

The finals produced thrilling action for fans. In the U11 category, FC Ada Taka claimed a 2–0 victory over Cosmo Legend FC, while the U13 final saw Killer Boys FC triumph 3–1 against FC Ada Taka. Makubo described both matches as memorable, praising the different playing styles on display and the dedication shown by the young athletes.

While the tournament ran smoothly, Makubo admitted there were some challenges. A team that was not invited attempted to participate, fielding over-aged players and forcing organisers to disqualify them to protect the integrity of the event.

“It’s a lesson for every organiser, be sure of the teams  you’re inviting, as some travel long distances and deserve a fair competition.”

Makubo was proud of the U13 team’s performance.

“The boys showed great spirit and readiness. The results didn’t go exactly as planned for our other teams, but that’s something we can work on for next time.”
