Bollywood rocks Montecasino
MAGALIESSIG - The stage show Blame it on Bollywood had a successful seven-performance stint at the Teatro in Montecasino.
According to the producer of the show, Ashvin Gidwani, the production was a fusion of vibrant, energetic Bollywood and the great Indian wedding, which was the best of both worlds. “The show is unique to an Indian family but can be related to by any family in the world,” Gidwani said.
“This was our first year bringing the production to South African audiences and it was warmly appreciated, we might do a month-long show next time we come to the country.”
Bharat Dabholkar, director of the production, said the comedy-drama took about a year to produce and had a talented star-studded Indian cast who tell a humorous story about love, marriage and family.
Anant Mahadevan, acclaimed film and theatre actor, and Jayati Bhatia, famous television personality and theatre performer, play the parents of bride-to-be (Anchal Sabharwal), while actor Neil Gagdani provides a good dose of comedy as the bride’s nerdy brother.
The musical-comedy dazzled the audience with colourful costumes, vibrant choreography and a high-energetic wedding extravaganza performance.
The production was choreographed by well-known Indian chorographer, Hormuzd Khambata and music was directed by Louiz Banks.
Dabholkar said, “We auditioned for South African dancers and we were startled by the great response, plus the fact that the dancers picked up the steps very easily, it was surprising. I believe that South Africans enjoyed the production.”
