Photographer Andrews launches his classic passion for pictures
MONTECASINO - Celebrated Photographer, Johnathan Andrews, officially launched his book, Classic Passion, at Monticasino’s Skoobs Theatre of Books on 21 January
The event, which was held in Fourways, also marked the announcement of the #theoryofAPIS Photo Challenge, a photographic contest with prizes which include a trip to Turkey, photographic training courses and more.
Speaking during the glittering ceremony which was attended by prominent Fourways residents and musicians, Andrews encouraged photographers to enter the competition. “This is my personal contribution to photography, an art which involves everyone. Everyone is now a photographer through smartphones,” said Andrews.
In his book, he unveils the first part of The Theory of APIS (Applied Photographic Inspiration), a hybrid mathematical calculation which he formulated to stimulate creative reasoning for photography.
He links the first part of the theory to the Johannesburg International Mozart Festival (JIMF) as his contribution to promoting the arts.
Andrews hopes to stimulate attendance of this year’s JIMF by inspiring photographers to attend the concerts. To enter a photo in the #theoryofAPIS Photo Challenge, a photographer has to create a musicly-inspired image after attending one or more of the JIMF concerts which take place between 23 January and 7 February this year.
In Classic Passion, Andrews features a collection of passionate images which he captured during previous JIMF concerts and rehearsals of some of the performing artists.
Richard Cock, one of the founders of JIMF, delivered an informative talk about photography, and guests were treated to five-star entertainment by South Africa’s renowned tenor, Stefan Louw.
