Local aspiring actor wins Overall Grand Champion Award for acting at World Championships

The Overall Grand Champion Award winner for acting at this year’s World Championships, Vongai Dhliwayo said she can’t wait to finish matric and go to pursue her acting passion at the New York Film Academy.

The 16-year-old Grade 10 learner at Redhill College and acting student at Upstage Concepts performing art studio in Fourways recently competed in the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles and won an Overall Grand Champion Award for acting.

She said working hard every day helped her to beat other contestants from different countries around the world who were competing with at this year’s world championships. “I would like to thank my teacher and my parents for their support as I was preparing for this competition. We worked very hard with my coach in the past six months practising my monologues,” she said.

“There were thousands of contestants from 52 different countries but at the end of the day I was announced the winner of an Overall Grand Champion Award for acting. I was awarded a full one-year scholarship to study at New York Film Academy.”

She encouraged other young people to work hard in order to reach their goals and never give up on their dreams.
