December is in full swing, which means the kids are on holiday. If you are out of ideas on keeping your little ones busy, we may have the solution you’ve been searching for: homemade holiday ornaments.
We first found these orange ornaments online, but there are many variations of these instructions. They are fun, eco-friendly gifts that are easy and fun for children to make. They will also give off a wonderful scent and add colour to your Christmas tree.
What you need
- Two oranges
- Baking sheet
- Small paring knife
- Twine
How to make them
- Cut the oranges crosswise into 3/4-inch slices so they resemble little pinwheels.
- Help your child lay orange slices on a baking sheet or aluminium foil in the oven set at the lowest temperature (around 150 degrees).
- Bake them for four hours.
- Then, turn them over with a spatula.
- Check them every hour until they have just a little moisture left. The slices should still have an orange colour.
- Make a small hole at the top of each slice with a paring knife.
- Help your child string the twine through the hole to make a loop.
