Aimee set to shine on international catwalk in Skeleton Key Couture designs

Local model and designer head to Vancouver Fashion Week.

It is sometimes difficult to remember that Aimee Botes, from Parkhill Gardens, is just 17 years old.

Aimee, who attends the National School of the Arts, where she majors in dance, and studies drama and rock ’n pop vocals through Trinity College, in London, has been making a name for herself in the world of modelling.

And in October she will walk down the runway at Vancouver Fashion Week, in Canada.

Aimee will be modelling Jessica Scholtz’s Skeleton Key Couture Obsidian Collection.

She first met Jessica in 2016.

“I did a fashion show for Uberglam School of Fashion in 2016 where Jessica was studying,” Aimee said.

“Jessica was one of the designers I walked for and I immediately fell in love with her designs from the first fitting.

“Jessica did the brand Opaline Couture, and I wore a long navy blue gown on the runway.

“She was also very helpful and kind when fitting clothing and helped me change backstage.”

The respect and adoration was mutual.

“Aimee was so easy to work with at the Uberglam School of Fashion show,” said Jessica.

“I was impressed with her because she is so well-rounded with everything she does.

“She isn’t just good at one thing; she can do shoots and runway which is exactly what you want in a model.

“She is also lovely and always goes the extra mile. I love her to bits.”

The relationship between designer and model has blossomed since their first meeting and Aimee is thrilled to be a brand ambassador for Skeleton Key Couture which she describes as a distinctive high fashion brand with a unique and alternative style.

“As a brand ambassador for Skeleton Key Couture, my most important responsibility is to be the face of the business in order to enhance brand awareness and social reach,” Aimee explained.

“While Jessica may use a variety of models depending on what looks work with certain garment styles, I have been part of every project because of my ability to suit almost all of her pieces.

“My signature look as an independent model means that I am an integral part of assisting in creating striking and memorable live shows and photographic content, so that Skeleton Key Couture can continue to form its own signature brand unlike no other.”

When asked what her first reaction was when she found out she’d be walking the runway at Vancouver Fashion Week, Aimee said, “Jessica came to my house to do a fitting in February, during which she sat me down and told me the news.

“At first I was in complete disbelief and then I was completely overwhelmed with joy and excitement.

“I am so humbled to be part of this journey with Jessica and I hope I can represent her brand to my full capacity.”

This will be Aimee’s first international fashion show.

“This is a really big deal for me as there will be over 30 000 people, including VIPs and industry professionals who will attend this prestigious event,” she said.

“This fashion show is such a wonderful opportunity, which I owe to Jessica, and I hope to develop myself and learn from industry professionals.

“The more knowledge you gain, the better you can hone your skills.

“I can’t wait to see where it leads me in the future but wherever this journey leads me, I will be forever joyful and grateful, I have come this far.”

In preparation for the trip Aimee recently completed a course through Figure Models Alberton.

“The course helped me become more confident and establish my own unique walk,” she explained.

“I have also been involved in fashion shoots for Skeleton Key Couture.”

Aimee is currently trying to find ways to raise money to help fund her trip.

“I am offering brand collaborations with companies who are interested in getting their products introduced into the Canadian market,” she explained.

“I am also looking for fund-raising opportunities, should anyone wish to contact me.”
